Why Traditional Low Calories Diet Don’t Work

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 in Health and Fitness, Popular Diets.

Low calorie diets simply don’t work for a variedly of reasons to start with they take a lot of will power and most people give up after a few days more fundamentally the whole science of low calories is fatally flawed.

On the surface the reasoning behind low calorie diets looks sound if you eat less calories your body must by default burn the it stored fat supply for energy. Now this is basic true and this simplistic scientific reasoning is what has kept the low calorie so popular for so long.

There are two things these over simplified diets overlook:

1. The body has it’s own in built intelligence and survival mechanisms which have evolved over millions of years and cannot become over come easy by modern science.

If your calorific intake drops too low say below 1000 calories for the average man and 1000 for the average woman a emergency survival mechanism click into to gear. Your body metabolism begins to slow so less Calories are needed, making weight loss, that much more difficult.

When you return to a more normal regime the body begin second more sophisticated long term survival strategy . In anticipation of future food shortage it begins to lay down surplus calories as fat. Remember the first survival mechanism has already slowed the metabolism so the body requires less calories.

The combination of this to fact make it very difficult to lose weight on a low calorie diet and even more difficult to keep it off.

2. Most low calorie and in particular mono food diets don’t provide a balance diet and lack essential nutrients the body needs for vital functions.

This leads to food craving as the body cries out for what it needs making it very hard to stick with the diet, this is one of the reason so much will power is required for most low calorie diets.

If you stick with the program your body will lack the nutrients it needs for good health and weight lose. Your body and especially your liver needs certain nutrients including some essential fats (often do present in low fat diets) in order burn the stored fat in your body. If this nutrients are not present in enough quantities stored body fat will not be lose.

If calorie intake is lower and the body cannot draw on the energy stored in your fat cell, due to poor nutrition, the result will almost permanent fatigue.

Low calorie and mono calorie diets can be extremely dangerous over a long period of time due to nutritional deficient.

If you have tried low calorie diets and failed before I hope you now understand and relies you were not to blame. It’s important to understand it was the reasoning, the flawed science behind the diet that was to blame not you. Once you understand this you regain your confidence and take new heart as you read the rest of this book and you it as the catalyze to a new future.

Diet sodas containing sweeteners such as aspartame may be the very worse thing you can drink if you are trying to lose weight, or control your weight.

The fuel your cells burn is actually glucose and all fuel sources whether they are fats, proteins, or complex carbohydrates (sugars and starches) have to be converted to glucose before your body can use them.

A useful way to illustrated this is to compare your bodies cells to a light bulb. An electric light can only utilize electricity as a power source but that electricity ,can be made from a variety of base sources such as gas, coal, nuclear and solar.

In the same way your body converts various base sources into glucose, the easiest to convert is sugar. This means as soon as you taste sugar your brain sends a signal to your body that sugar is on the way, and it stops using any other sources of glucose. Including fat.

The problem with diet sodas is that they deliver the taste without the hit of sugar. This leads to a shortfall in your bodies glucose requirements .

This leads to massive craving for high sugar foods such as cakes, chocolate and biscuits.

Worse still if you habitually consume diet sodas you can train your body to lay down extra fat supplies to offset unreliable sugar deliveries.

The problem is often compounded by the fact that diet sodas often contain caffeine. Caffeine is addictive so it easy to become hooked on diet sodas.

Also caffeine is also a diuretic and often leads to dehydration and thirst.

This thirst leads to another diet soda or is mistaken for hunger, which leads to overeating.

So what the solution, you must stop drinking diet sodas and substitute them for plain unflavored un-sweeten water. You will probably have to wean yourself off sodas over the course of several days or a week

Start by making the very first drink of the day at least 500ml of plain water and then if you can’t initially resist some soda substitute every other soda for 500mls of water. (you should be aware that many bottle waters contain sweeteners read the label).

Water is by far the best thing you can drink for weight loss and control and also offers many other health benefits.
